Well, "remin...Thanks for reminding me Estonia! Well, "remind" might not really be the right word, actually. I knew absolutely nothing about the Estonian bagpipes, I've never heard of it before, I have just started fullfilling my curiosity thanks to Good Ol' internet. Sounds interesting, not to mention the beauty of the Estonian ladies piping in traditional suits. Most pipers in ...It is beginning to change I think. Most pipers in most countries are men, with some notable exceptions. Estonia for example. But when I gave a course in Germany in November, the men were in minority. And when I played at Chateau d'Ars in 2011 I met a *lot* of female pipers.

Of the pipers from the 19th century we know of today in Sweden, only two were female (a mother and her daughter - both emigrated to USA). But there are stories of other female pipers from that time, we just don't know who they were.Olle Gällmohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16747285770301299821noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4432424713659720629.post-46243094371805021462013-01-17T22:52:37.446+01:002013-01-17T22:52:37.446+01:00Hello Olle!

Bagpiping, in particular, seemed to be a male-only activity, anywhere. This has changed fo the good, and nobody will complain. Swedish tune names, and personal name...Hello Joan,

Swedish tune names, and personal names, can indeed be confusing! I also mix up Erik Persson and Pehr Ericsson sometimes. Erik Persson was a bagpiper, Pehr Eriksson was a fiddler.

Olle GällmoOlle Gällmohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16747285770301299821noreply@blogger.com
